Trauma and psychotraumatology - help for adults, children and adolescents

Trauma and difficult experiences can affect everyday life, even long after an event. It can be hard to put these feelings into words, yet you may notice tension, anxiety or difficulties in close relationships.

This part of my work supports adults, children and adolescents who have experienced trauma.

When should you seek support?

  • Memories of difficult events return even when you would rather not think about them.

  • You feel intense tension or alertness, including physical symptoms such as difficulty relaxing, headaches or muscle tension.

  • You have difficulty sleeping or concentrating.

  • You avoid places, situations or conversations associated with the experience.

  • You feel anxious or unsafe even when there is no immediate danger.

  • You feel isolated or find it difficult to build close relationships.

  • You notice sudden mood changes or strong reactions to situations that remind you of earlier experiences.

Trauma can take different forms

Trauma does not always involve one dramatic event. It can follow a single difficult experience, prolonged stress, neglect or repeated distressing situations. People respond differently. An experience that one person can work through relatively easily may leave another with lasting tension.

What does support involve?

  • At our first meeting, we explore your situation and decide what kind of support would be appropriate.

  • We work at your pace, without a fixed timetable.

  • I adapt my approach to your circumstances, needs and readiness.

  • Consultations take place online.

  • A safe, stable therapeutic relationship is an important part of our work.

Children and adolescents

Children and adolescents may respond differently from adults, through changes in behaviour, withdrawal, difficulties at school or problems with peer relationships. A noticeable change in behaviour after a difficult event can also signal that a child needs support.

When working with younger clients, I take their age and developmental stage into account. Parents or caregivers are an important part of the support process.
